I have been looking forward to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games for quite some time. I have been full of excitement. I have been filled with an overwhelming feeling of pride that was sparked even stronger when I was lucky enough to have my picture taken holding the Olympic Torch (unlit). What a memory, what a chance of a lifetime.
Then earlier today I was struck with overwhelming sadness that I still cannot let go of. A very young man, only 21 years old, who worked hard, was obviously determined, filled with Olympic dreams and once full of life, in a split second died on a practice run preparing for his Olympic Luge competition.
I am sure that Nodar Kumaritahvili is in the minds and hearts of people worldwide. I have no doubt that people worldwide, whether they are Nodar's family, friends, or perfect strangers have deep sadness in their hearts tonight.
I have watched the video of Nodar's tragic luge accident over and over. Stunned at his loss of life. I have tried to search the internet for anything that I could put about Nodar and his luge career other than his death today, but cannot find anything. Everything is about his death. Why? Because it is so shocking, so sad.
I hope that everyone, everywhere, whether you are an athlete or not, thinks of Nodar tonight and of his family.
My sympathies go out to the Georgian athletes, Nodar's country, Nodar's friends and Nodar's family. My sympathy is sent to you at such a difficult time. As they Olympic Cauldron was lit tonight, it made me think just how quickly Nodar's Olympic dreams and his life were extinguished. May you rest in Peace.
What is an Ollie? If you want to read about the History of the Ollie then Click Here.
For the brief description of an Ollie; it is an aerial trick on a skateboard invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand in 1978. It basically entails the skateboarder getting airtime with the board without using hands.
Check out this video. It will give you a visual on an Ollie and it is pretty long. How long of an Ollie can you do?
Wanna see some great Longboard footage? You gotta check this HD Longboard video out.
The one thing I have to say though is buy a cool helmet and wear it. Some of the boarders in this video are not wearing a helmet and that is stupid. You can get really cool helmets these days and if you wanna have a long skateboarding life, you need your head and brain working right.
If you check out the channel where I got that longboard video, they claim to give you a gift card if you subscribe to their channel. I have not subscribed so I do not know the details of the gift card claim. If any one has subscribed and got a gift card, leave a comment and let all of us know about it and if it is worth it.
If you are a die hard skateboarder then you will be familiar with skateboard slang and will know what I mean when I say Ahhh Noggles!
If you are a parent just checking our site out or a newbie at skateboarding, then you might be wondering why the heck we called our site Ahhh Noggles.
Noggles is a term that skateboarders use when they mess up at a trick or stunt they were doing and they lightly tap their 'nuts' but it is not hard enough to hurt, just hard enough to make their heart jump a few beats.
I was going to call the site Schralped, but Noggles seemed to rock so much more it just stuck with me and won out.
We are just new and up and running, so check back in a few days for some great stuff on our site.
